Tennis: What is the different between doubles and singles?

v p asked:

Obviously one has 2vs2 and the other 1vs1, but I don’t really watch much tennis beside big 1vs1 matches. What are like the finer differences that occur in a 2vs2 game?

Ex. It is harder bc…

Ex. It requires ____ kind of player bc…….

etc, etc.

in doubles the court is bigger thats pretty much it

  2. asafegous Says:

2x= wider field and less money; also faster pace

  3. CMEL Says:

the court is larger, both must be more clever than strong, 1-1 requires more speed and 2-2 requires to be more clever

    doubles–alleys in
    singles–alleys out
doubles—harder when the ball goes down the middle of the court because its hard to tell whose ball it is
singles–harder to cover the whole court by yourself
doubles–tough luck if your partner sucks….but good when they carry the team
singles–when you have a bad game you have no partner to help you stay on top…but no risk of a partner having a bad game
    :]

it is maybe harder because you need to pay more attention to close shots(like there is always a player on the net)which means close swings. It also requires more precise shots.since there are two opponents, th court is well covered so, you need to put the swings between them in precise/concise swings.and also, they use the outside border lines as for the singles, they use the inner border lines.

singles game, if you notice only utilize the inside rectangle of the tennis court. im pretty good at tennis , and the really small differences between the two are too great for me to say. but doubles uses the entire court and singles uses only the inside.

they are both hard, but hard in different ways. doubles has less court to cover because there are two people. but harder Because there are two people and they have to be able to communicate between each other. Most of this communication is automatic and each player has to know what exactly to do in every given situation. doubles play is learned after singles

    in doubles, the “in/outs” differ.
the two columns on the lengths of the courts are considered in, and thats about it for court wise.
in this case, usually (but not always), one player goes up to the net, and the other stays back.
people say that doubles may be “considered” easier then singles, but matters almost always differ.

in singles, the two columns are considered out,
the single player on the cour can stay back or move up to the net, but more ground is covered, which may mean more running.
again, people say that singles may be more challenging, but again, at times things differe.

Its just a completely different game. Well almost

playing wise its a pretty different game because you can be great in singles but suck at doubles.

Main reason : communication with partner generally suck when you guys are both good single players because you both want to do everything and you dont have trust in each other.

In doubles a big serve is a lot more important than in singles since it sets up the whole volley game.

Whether its harder depends on the type of player, speedy guys are pretty useless in doubles. Guys with big serve and good volleying ability are really good at doubles.

In my opinion, doubles is harder to play and more boring to watch. There are two people covering each side of the court so it’ll be easier to get to the ball and it’ll be more boring because it’ll be more slow paced.

Singles, on the other hand, is more fast-paced and it means more court coverage for a player.
Singles is also easier for people to understand.

I prefer singles myself, I like playing for myself better than playing with another person.
